Ex/ATEX terminal boxes designed for use in zone 22 are available in GRP plastic, electropolished AISI 316L stainless steel and aluminum. They come with accessories such as cable glands, terminal rails, terminals and other components such as switches, indicator lights, voltmeters, ammeters, etc. They feature IP66/67 protection and are rated for temperatures from -50°C to +95°C. They are used as switch or junction boxes, for use in various types of switches, control panels or equipment enclosures. These boxes are used in explosion-prone environments such as the power, wood, chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries.

While all Ex equipment must have documentation confirming its suitability for use in hazardous areas, not all such documentation takes the form of a certificate. It’s important to understand when a certificate is necessary and which other documents can attest to an Ex device’s compliance. The question, “Does all Ex equipment need to be ATEX […]

Glass fibre reinforced polyester used to manufacture the HTBP series terminal boxes have been selected to grant the maximum protection against highly corrosive agents and maximum UV protection. Ex terminal boxes for zone 22 must be ATEX certified

In Zone 22, where the threat of explosive atmospheres due to the presence of flammable gases and/or vapors is real, Ex/ATEX boxes are essential devices for safe electrical installation. Found in almost all industrial sectors, these boxes are approved according to ATEX and IECEx standards, guaranteeing their reliability and safe use.

Design of material for corrosion resistance of terminal boxes

The use of three different construction materials, such as GRP, aluminum and stainless steel, makes them suitable for use in environments with varying degrees of exposure to corrosion. GRP boxes, characterized by high resistance to chemicals and weather conditions, offer light weight and ease of installation, making them reliable even in the harshest environments. Aluminum boxes, on the other hand, combine the durability of this metal with lightness and advanced engineering to ensure safety in Ex areas, making them the optimal choice for sites requiring both corrosion resistance and simplicity of installation. Stainless steel boxes provide the highest level of protection, thanks to their resistance to aggressive environments and high mechanical strength, and are ideal for applications where special hygiene and cleanliness are required, as well as in extreme conditions.

All of these variants are suitable for use in Zone 22, providing optimum safety in explosive atmospheres. Their variety of sizes and configurations allows customization to meet individual installation needs, making HARDO Ex/ATEX terminal boxes a versatile solution for many industrial applications.

Application of Ex terminal boxes for Zone 22

Ex boxes play a key role in protecting electrical installations in areas where there is a risk of explosive atmospheres. Availability in a wide range of materials - from GRP to aluminum to stainless steel - makes them an excellent choice for a variety of applications in ATEX-endangered areas.

Choosing the right material, whether GRP, aluminum or stainless steel, is critical to ensuring maximum safety. Each of these materials brings specific benefits, such as chemical resistance, easier installation and exceptional mechanical durability, which can tailor the Ex box to the specific requirements of each installation.
