Description
Construction
ATEX emergency fixtures from OptiLine series, designed to work with a central battery, are equipped with efficient LED light sources. The extended version of the fixture can be used as general lighting. Its external housing is made of glass-reinforced polyester (GRP). The diffuser, available in three variants (transparent, frosted, and opal), is made of UV-stabilized polycarbonate.
The ATEX OptiLine emergency fixture allows for the use of lens to adjust the direction of the light beam. With up to four cable glands (M20 or M25) and pass-through cables with electrical connectors on both ends of the fixture, installation and integration into larger systems are significantly simplified. These solutions eliminate the need for junction boxes, reduce cable consumption, cable trays, and other installation materials. The larger cable glands allow for the use of thicker cables from various manufacturers, including flame retardant and fire resistant cables and those with larger conductor cross-sections to minimize voltage drop over length.
The ATEX OptiLine emergency fixture has no loose parts. For example, the lens and the internal mounting plate have hinges, and the screws providing access to electrical connections are of the captive type. All of this eliminates the risk of elements of the fixture falling during installation and inspections.
Application
The OptiLine ATEX fixtures are designed for use both indoors and outdoors. They are intended for use in Zone 2, where there is a risk of explosion of gases, vapors, or mists of flammable liquids, assigned to explosion groups IIA, IIB, or IIC and temperature classes T4, T3, T2, T1. Additionally, they are suitable for use in Zones 21 and 22, where there is a risk of explosion of flammable dust of explosion groups IIIA, IIIB, or IIIC with a dust layer ignition temperature (5 mm thickness) higher than 145°C.
The OptiLine explosion-proof fixture has been designed for use in challenging and moderately demanding environments. Its high resistance to chemicals, mechanical damage, and environmental conditions make it suitable for industries such as chemical, petrochemical, energy, wood, and food processing.
Moreover, this fixture will prove valuable in all manufacturing plants and warehouses where high durability, safety confirmed by ATEX, IECEx, and CNBOP certifications, and well-thought-out construction that can reduce installation and maintenance costs are required.

ATEX Emergency LED Fixtures: Cost Savings and Enhanced Safety in Hazardous Areas
When it comes to lighting in hazardous areas, the costs of ATEX (ATmosphères EXplosibles) lighting fixtures are just one piece of the puzzle. The installation of these fixtures can constitute a significant portion of the total expenses, often ranging from 20% to 40%. In this article, we will examine how the appropriate selection of ATEX lamps and fixtures can not only reduce installation costs but also improve safety in explosive hazard Zones.
Choosing ATEX Lamps and Installation Costs
Before we introduced our Ex LED lighting fixtures to the market, we spent years designing complete general and emergency lighting installations, which we then installed in our clients’ facilities. Our practical experience with lighting fixtures from various manufacturers allowed us to understand the factors that influence the final costs of lighting installations, including emergency lighting, in Ex (explosive hazard) areas.
We discovered that the choice of lighting fixtures has a significant impact on installation efficiency, the speed of work execution, and the consumption of installation materials, including cable trays, power cables, and junction boxes.
Here are a few important points to remember:
- Lighting fixtures for Ex Zones require the use of more expensive, ATEX-certified junction boxes.
- Emergency fixtures require the use of more expensive, flame retardant and fire resistant power cables and junction boxes.
- Some industries require the use of stainless steel installation materials, which increases costs associated with junction boxes, cable trays, and other components.
Up to 4 Cable Glands in ATEX Fixtures
Many lighting fixtures have limitations when it comes to the number and size of cable glands that can be installed on their enclosures. ATEX OptiLine fixtures can accommodate up to four cable glands of M20 or M25 types (two on each side). This, combined with pass-through cables featuring two electrical connections at both ends of the fixture, allows for versatile fixture connections without the need for junction boxes and with reduced consumption of power cables and cable trays.
Larger Cable Gland Size
The use of M25 cable glands in ATEX emergency fixtures allows for the use of cables with a larger cross-sectional area. This not only provides flexibility in choosing cable manufacturers but also enables the use of thicker cables with increased conductor diameter to reduce voltage drops over longer distances. It also facilitates the use of flame retardant and fire resistant cables, which is crucial for emergency fixtures.
Efficient and Safe Installation
Our ATEX lighting fixtures have been designed with safety and convenience in mind. The diffuser and internal mounting plate with the LED module feature a type of hinge, making it easier to access electrical components without the risk of them falling. Importantly, if necessary, the diffuser can be completely detached from the housing. But that’s not all. The mounting screws are captive screws and have specially profiled heads for easy removal by hand or with a screwdriver.
Considering the above, OptiLine Ex fixtures ensure that no components will fall during installation, enhancing the safety of the work and eliminating the risk of foreign objects entering the production equipment, which could lead to contamination of the product or be the cause of mechanical sparking.
Choosing the Right ATEX Fixture for Lighting
As manufacturers of explosion-proof lighting fixtures with experience in installing lighting installations, we have identified several challenges that can increase investment costs. Drawing from this experience, we have developed the versatile OptiLine ATEX emergency lighting fixture designed to handle both general and emergency lighting in explosive hazard Zones while maintaining competitive fixture prices.
Let’s take a closer look at a few key features of the OptiLine fixture that contribute to reducing installation costs in industrial lighting installations.
Combining General and Emergency Lighting Functions
OptiLine LED lamps can function as both general and emergency lighting. This eliminates the need for separate installations, providing flexibility and efficiency. Emergency lighting can be powered either from a central battery (OptiLine CBX/CBY model) or the built-in battery within the fixture (OptiLine A1 model).
Wide Range of Light Outputs
ATEX OptiLine lighting fixtures come in two lengths and offer six levels of light output. Combined with three different options for diffuser transparency, this provides a wide range of light output possibilities, allowing them to be tailored to various lighting requirements.
Three Different Diffuser for Various Applications
ATEX OptiLine fixtures provide a choice of three diffuser: transparent, frosted, and opal. Each type of diffuser has unique light transmission properties, allowing for customization of the lighting to specific environments, whether it’s outdoors, indoors, or requiring a diffused light beam.
Adjusting the Lighting Direction with Lenses
The ATEX OptiLine fixture allows for the use of lenses to adjust the direction of lighting. This innovative solution simplifies installation and leads to cost savings by eliminating the need for special brackets or accessories.
Transforming ATEX Lighting Fixtures into High-Bay Solutions
By using a special focusing lens, OptiLine lighting fixtures are suitable for installation at significant heights. This eliminates the need for High-Bay fixtures or special constructions, resulting in cost savings and providing uniform lighting throughout the space.
Variable Light Output in Emergency Mode
Each ATEX OptiLine emergency lighting fixture can be configured to emit different levels of light output in emergency mode. This flexibility simplifies the design process and positively impacts installation costs. Instead of relying on costly control systems or adjusting mounting heights, you can individually set the light output for each fixture.
What are ATEX / IECEx OptiLine luminaires
ATEX / IECEx OptiLine luminaires refer to a specific type of lighting product that combines the features and certifications of both ATEX and IECEx standards. These luminaires are designed and manufactured to meet the safety requirements and regulations outlined by both ATEX and IECEx for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
