Ex HSP1P 125 W-SCT wall-mounted explosion-proof sockets
The HSP1P 125 W-SCT wall-mounted sockets are designed to provide a safe power supply to electrical equipment in areas at risk of gas and dust explosions. They are suitable for use in Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, including in demanding industrial environments where there is moisture, dust, low temperatures or corrosive agents.
The circuit is switched on by turning the plug in the socket. Whilst in use, the plug remains mechanically locked in place – it can only be removed once the socket has been switched off.
Ex sockets with a mechanical plug lock
The problem
Pulling the plug out whilst the current is flowing may cause an electric arc. In the presence of flammable gases, vapours or dust, such an arc may act as a source of ignition.
Solution
The HSP1P 125 W-SCT sockets are fitted with a mechanical lock that prevents the plug from being removed whilst the circuit remains live.
- the plug is inserted into the socket,
- Turning the plug activates the internal switch,
- in the operating position, the plug is locked in place,
- It can only be removed once it has returned to the off position.

Built-in circuit breaker in Ex-rated industrial sockets
The problem
In standard sockets, the plug contacts may make contact with the socket whilst the circuit is live – the operator does not always know whether current is flowing at that moment.
Solution
The HSP1P 125 W-SCT sockets have a switch integrated into the locking mechanism. This switch is activated when the plug is rotated – simply inserting the plug does not close the circuit. The position of the plug determines the state of the socket and whether it can be removed.
Benefits
- fully controlled power supply activation,
- there is no need for a separate switch at the socket,
- simple, straightforward operation,
- fewer live-line operations.
The built-in circuit breaker does not replace the appropriate installation protection measures – the circuit still requires suitable short-circuit and overload protection.
Protection against the plug being removed whilst under load
The problem
The operator may attempt to disconnect the device without first switching off the power supply, which accelerates wear on the contacts, promotes arcing and increases the risk of ignition in an explosive atmosphere.
Solution
In HSP1P 125 W-SCT sockets, the release of the plug is mechanically dependent on the switch position. The plug can only be released once the circuit has been switched to the ‘off’ position.
Benefit
Safety is not solely dependent on the operator acting correctly – the design of the equipment physically prevents dangerous operations from being carried out.
How can you safely connect an electrical device in an Ex zone?
Before connecting the appliance, check that the socket and plug are compatible in terms of:
- rated current,
- voltages,
- the number and arrangement of contacts,
- markings indicating explosion-proof design,
- permissible temperature,
- the diameter and cross-section of the cable.
Procedural order
- Make sure the socket is switched off.
- Insert the correct plug.
- Block the call.
- Turn the plug to the ‘on’ position.
- When you have finished using the appliance, turn the plug to the ‘off’ position.
- Release the lock and remove the plug.
- Close the protective cover on the socket.
Sockets for areas at risk of gas and dust explosions
The problem
Within a plant, there may be areas at risk of gas and vapour explosions and areas at risk of dust explosions at the same time. Maintaining separate systems of equipment complicates the design and operation of the plant.
Solution
HSP1P 125 W-SCT sockets are designed for use in:
- Zones 1 and 2 where there is a risk of explosion from gases, vapours and mists,
- Zones 21 and 22, where there is a risk of explosion from combustible dust and fibres.
Series explosion-proof designation:

Equipment can be selected for gases in Groups IIA, IIB and IIC, and for dusts in Groups IIIA, IIIB and IIIC

The problem

ATEX sockets for portable and service equipment
The problem
Portable devices are connected and disconnected repeatedly, which increases the risk of operator error, contact wear and accidental disconnection of the cable whilst in use.
Solution
The HSP1P 125 W-SCT sockets enable the safe power supply of compatible portable devices in Ex zones.
Mechanical lock:
- secures the joint,
- prevents the plug from being pulled out accidentally,
- forces the circuit to be switched off before disconnection,
- reduces the risk of an electric arc forming.
The self-cleaning design of the contact sleeves helps to remove some of the contaminants from the contact surfaces during connection.
The solution can be used, amongst other things, to power:

125 A explosion-proof sockets
The following shows the HSP1P 125 W-SCT socket variants with a rated current of 125 A.
Available contact configurations
- 2P,
- 3P – 2P + PE,
- 3P – 1P + N + PE,
- 4P – 3P + PE,
- 4P – 3P + PE + NO,
- 5P – 3P + N + PE,
- 5P – 3P + N + PE + NO.
The NO auxiliary contact can be used, amongst other things, for signalling, control or monitoring the connection status. Its availability depends on the selected version.
The sockets are available in versions for AC voltages up to 690 V AC and DC voltages up to 250 V DC.
Protection against the use of an incorrect plug
The problem
A single installation may contain sockets with different voltages, rated currents and intended uses. Incorrect connection may result in damage to the appliance or pose a hazard.
Solution
The HSP1P 125 W-SCT system is based on several levels of protection.
Colour-coding
The colour of the socket and plug components makes it easy to quickly identify the voltage range. This reduces the risk of connecting the device to a circuit with incorrect specifications.
The colour serves as a guide only – you should always check the rated specifications before making a connection.
Protection against connecting components with different current ratings
The mechanical design of sockets and plugs with different rated currents prevents them from being connected by mistake. A plug with a different current rating will not fit into the socket.
Protection against the use of a standard non-Ex plug
The design of the socket prevents the connection of a standard non-Ex industrial plug. This reduces the risk of accidentally using equipment not intended for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere.

- it is not possible to connect components with incompatible current ratings,
- protection against the use of a standard industrial plug,
- making it easier for operators to distinguish between circuits.
How do you choose an explosion-proof socket to match a plug?
It is worth starting the selection process by determining the specifications of the device to be powered.
1. Rated current
The rated current of the socket and plug must be compatible with the circuit and load specifications. This version applies to sockets with a rated current of 125 A.
2. Voltage
You should check the device’s rated voltage and the colour-coding of the system. The colour alone does not exempt you from checking the rating plate.
3. Number and arrangement of contacts
It is necessary to determine whether the installation requires:
- two contacts,
- two terminals and the PE,
- phase, neutral and PE conductors,
- phase, neutral and PE,
- three phases, the neutral conductor and the PE conductor,
- an additional NO auxiliary contact
4. Type of Ex zone
The appliance’s marking must comply with the classification of the installation site, the gas and dust groups, and the required temperature class.
5. Ambient temperature
The maximum permissible temperature depends on the specific variant, the cable cross-section and the temperature class
6. Cable
The following should be taken into account
- core cross-section,
- the outer diameter of the cable,
- the number of cores,
- temperature resistance of the insulation,
- type of gland,
- the need to use armoured cable.
7. How to use
In the 125 A sockets, the circuit is switched on using a rotary knob on the housing – unlike the smaller versions (16 A and 32 A), where the circuit is switched on by turning the plug.
IP66 explosion-proof sockets for outdoor use
The problem
Equipment installed outdoors is exposed to rain, snow, dust, damp, condensation and fluctuating temperatures.
Solution
The HSP1P 63 W-SCT sockets offer an IP66 protection rating. The housing and seals protect the interior from dust and powerful jets of water.
Silicone seals are resistant to:
- low temperatures,
- a high temperature,
- material ageing processes,
- changing weather conditions.
Once the plug has been removed, the socket should be covered with a protective cap. The degree of protection of the entire installation also depends on the correct selection and fitting of cable glands and blanking plugs.
Benefits
- suitable for outdoor installation,
- protection against dust and water,
- limited impact of weather conditions on the joints,
- a lower risk of moisture penetrating the interior.
The IP66 rating does not imply suitability for continuous immersion or the ability to direct a jet of water directly into an open socket.
Ex sockets resistant to corrosion and low temperatures
The problem
In outdoor, marine, chemical and process installations, equipment is often exposed to low temperatures, moisture and corrosive agents.
Solution
The socket housing is made of glass-fibre-reinforced, antistatic BMC polyester resin.
The material ensures:
- corrosion resistance typical of the metal,
- high mechanical strength,
- thermal stability,
- good insulation,
- suitability for use in harsh industrial environments.
Operating range: from -45°C to +60°C.

Self-cleaning contact sleeves
The problem
Dust, deposits and contaminants on the contacts can increase the resistance of the connection, cause overheating and reduce the reliability of the power supply.
Solution
The contact sleeves used in the HSP1P 63 W-SCT sockets are fitted with sliding elements. When connected to the plug, the contact surfaces are mechanically cleaned.
Benefits
- a more stable connection,
- less build-up on the contacts,
- a lower risk of developing resistance,
- greater reliability with frequent use.
This feature is not a substitute for regular technical inspections
Two cable entry points to make installation easier
HSP1P 63 W-SCT sockets can be fitted with two threaded cable entry holes:
- 2 × M63 for 100–125 A sockets.
The two entry points make it easier to adjust the direction in which the cables are routed and may allow for through-wiring. Any unused openings are sealed with certified Ex plugs.
