Express delivery of junction boxes for ORLEN Lithuania
HARDO, in collaboration with Lithuanian distributor MLX-EX, successfully completed two urgent deliveries of junction boxes for ORLEN Mažeikių. In both projects, we identified optimal technical solutions and offered a competitive price.
Project 1: Lightning-fast delivery of junction boxes
Challenge: urgent order
The request for quotation was received on Thursday, and by Friday, the completed order was shipped to Lithuania. This was achieved despite an ongoing HARDO production and process audit conducted by the Polish division of ORLEN.
Solution: quick analysis and optimization
Within less than 24 hours of receiving the inquiry:
- We conducted a technical analysis that allowed us to reduce the size of the box, thereby lowering its unit cost.
- We performed thermal calculations to confirm that the boxes met surface temperature and temperature class requirements.
- We prepared technical drawings and submitted them to the client for approval.
Additionally, to support our distributor and increase their chances of securing the order, we decided not to charge extra for a rush order.
Result
Despite time constraints and the challenges posed by the ongoing audit, the delivery was completed at record speed. Thanks to HARDO engineers’ expertise, we optimized the product both technically and cost-effectively.
Project 2: Optimization of junction boxes with metal cable glands
Challenge: adapting the box for large-diameter armored cables
In this order for ORLEN Lithuania, both fast execution and delivering an optimal technical and cost-effective solution were crucial. The boxes had to be designed for mounting M40 metal cable glands for large-diameter armored cables. This required sufficient space within the box to allow the thick and rigid cables to be arranged freely.
Solution: smart use of space and components
- We used mounting plates, which allowed us to change the DIN rail orientation. This improved space utilization and reduced the number of terminals compared to the competitor’s solution by half.
- We performed thermal calculations showing that the box would not exceed the critical temperature for explosion safety (despite using large terminals for 120 mm² cables).
- We installed an integrated grounding plate and dedicated grounding screws to ensure the safe mounting of metal glands.

On the left: HARDO’s solution with a mounting plate and vertical DIN rail orientation.
On the right: the competitor’s solution with a traditionally mounted DIN rail and an enclosure, which is, in fact, a combination of two separate enclosures.
HARDO’s advantage
The competitor, to achieve the required box size, proposed two connected modules, increasing the cost. HARDO engineers, on the other hand, focused on smart component organization. As a result, the HARDO box required only 4 terminals.
The competitor’s box had 8 terminals, which were bridged in pairs because they were positioned near one of the box walls. This prevented the use of half of the connections for cable cores.
Smaller dimensions and reducing the number of expensive terminals while maintaining the same technical parameters allowed us to lower the unit cost of the HARDO box.
Result
The client received a more compact and cost-effective solution that met all technical requirements. By precisely tailoring the box to the application, we eliminated unnecessary components, which reduced costs and improved installation ergonomics.
HARDO prioritizes fast execution and cost optimization
Both projects for ORLEN Mažeikių demonstrated that HARDO can rapidly deliver solutions that meet the requirements of even the most demanding clients.
Thanks to close collaboration with MLX-EX and a flexible design approach:
- We completed an express delivery within one day, despite an ongoing audit.
- We developed an optimized box design that was more economical and technically superior to the competitor’s offer.
