Service safety – the LOTO system

Ex HARDO safety switches allow the use of three padlocks to lock the knob in the “OFF” position, as required by the LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedure.

Prevent accidental switching on

Possibility of simultaneous locking by several persons

OSHA compliant, EN 1037

Simple and integrated operation

Category of use: AC-3 / AC-23

Ex ATEX HARDO safety switches meet the requirements of use category AC-3 and AC-23 according to IEC 60947-3, which means that they can be used not only as disconnectors but also as operating switches – for switching and disconnecting circuits under load or as isolating switches.

Use category characteristics:

AC-3: designed to control squirrel-cage motors: starting and stopping during normal operation,

AC-23: handling inductive loads (e.g. motors, transformers): frequent connection and disconnection under load.

Thus, the HARDO safety switch can simultaneously act as a main disconnector, operating switch and safety system component in hazardous areas, simplifying the installation and increasing its reliability.

Construction and durability of SMC composite housing

HARDO safety switches have a housing made of durable glass fibre-reinforced SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound), which guarantees resistance to mechanical damage and adverse environmental conditions.

mechanical resistance: up to 90% of original strength after 20 years

Compliant with ISO 4892 (UV, temperature, humidity)

UL 746C certification

Thermal and electrical insulation

Chemical and fire resistance

No corrosion, no maintenance

Low weight – easy installation

High surface durability

HARDO safety switch – reliable safety in Ex zones

The HARDO safety switch is a device designed for emergency power disconnection in installations operating in explosive atmospheres. It meets the requirements of the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and IECEx and enables effective circuit interruption in under-load operation – in accordance with use categories AC-3 and AC-23 according to IEC 60947-3

Machine and process line safety main switch

Emergency Disconnection in Emergency Situations (EMO)

Service protection for maintenance work (LOTO compliance)

Disconnection of motors, transformers, heaters and inductive equipment

In combination with automation systems it can act as a power status indicator

In addition to the standard catalogue offering, we also offer the possibility of fully customising safety switches for hazardous areas. Each model can be adapted to individual technical requirements and application conditions. Our flexible approach to configuration allows us to meet even non-standard customer expectations. It is this modifiability that is one of our key advantages. As a result, our solutions are suitable for both typical installations and projects with increased requirements.
